Vaccinations in Ferrets

Which vaccinations you should do in Ferrets

Which vaccinations does my ferret need? When and how often should these vaccinations be administered? We will try to answer these questions as best as possible in this section. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

We follow the WSAVA guidelines for vaccinating small animals. Below you can read which vaccinations are required or recommended.

RABIES (R):

For information on the disease, see above (DOG section). A valid rabies vaccination is required for ferrets traveling abroad. For all other ferrets, vaccination is recommended, especially if a change in the population is planned. Just as with dogs and cats, ferrets must be at least 12 weeks old for their first rabies vaccination.

DISTEMPER (D):

Like other mustelids, ferrets are susceptible to the distemper virus and should therefore be protected against the disease.

Information on the disease can be found in the dog section.

FERRET VACCINATION SCHEDULE:

R: 12 weeks, repeated after 1 year and then every 3 years
D: 8, 11, 14 weeks, then repeated annually
