Which vaccinations does my animal need? When and how often should these vaccinations be administered? We will try to answer these questions as best as possible in this section. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
We follow the WSAVA guidelines for vaccinating small animals. Below you can read which vaccinations are required or recommended.
RABBIT HEMORRHAGIC DISEASE (RHD):
The RHD virus is a calicivirus that infects rabbits and primarily causes severe bleeding from body cavities, respiratory distress, and rapid death. Since there are two virus variants (RHD-1 and -2), it is important to protect rabbits with an appropriate vaccine against both variants.
MYXOMATOSIS (MYXO):
The myxoma virus belongs to the poxviruses and causes swelling of the head and anogenital region, as well as nodular changes in the skin. Affected animals usually die from the disease, and there are no reliable treatment options. The virus is transmitted directly from animal to animal, but can also be passed on by mosquitos, fleas, or contaminated forage grass. Therefore, vaccination is also important for domestic rabbits that are fed fresh grass or have access to gardens. Up-to-date vaccination is also very important before regrouping.
RABBIT VACCINATION SCHEDULE:
RHD and Myxomatosis: from the 5th week of life, then once a year.
